Approval Guidelines
You must complete your Practicum hours at a site that meets the following criteria:
- The agency provides MFT-type therapy/counseling services to individuals (any age), couples, and/or families.
- The agency is accepting student trainees/interns at their site.
- The agency has a licensed clinician (LMFT, LCSW, Ph.D., or MD) who
a. has been licensed for at least two years and is willing and able to provide one to two hours of direct supervision per week.
b. has completed a BBS approved six-hour supervision course within the past two years, can provide you a copy of the certification to this effect, and is committed to keeping this certification current.
- The agency can provide you at least 10 hours of Practicum experience per week for a period of at least 30 weeks.
- The site is not a private practice.
- The site is listed in the MSC Practicum Site Directory, indicating that the site and the University of Phoenix have an executed Affiliation Agreement (AA) in place.
The Affiliation Agreement (AA) is a legal contract between the site and the University of Phoenix which details expectations for the training, experiences, supervision, and insurance that will be provided for students by UOP and the site. The BBS and University require that an Affiliation Agreement be in place and fully executed prior to students/trainees beginning any clinical experience or gaining any hours at the site. Once the approval process is complete and the Affiliation Agreement (AA) is signed and executed by both an authorized site representative and University of Phoenix personnel, the site will be added to the Directory. Students may earn Practicum hours only at approved sites that are listed in the Practicum Site Directory.
Remember that if a site is not listed in the Directory, it is not approved. Hours worked at a non-approved site will not fulfill the University’s requirement for Practicum course credit and will not be accepted by the BBS.
